Dr. David Menard was born and raised in Wheaton Township, Chippewa County. He grew up on a large dairy/beef farm. He attended Regis High School, and then went to UWEC where he received his B.S. in Zoology and Chemistry.
Dr. Peter Helmbrecht graduated from the University of Wisconsin – School of Veterinary Medicine in 1991. He has been with Northside Pet Hospital since 2015. He enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, especially preventative care and internal medicine.
Dr. Michelle Rothaug grew up in McMinnville, Oregon where she always knew growing up that she wanted to work with animals. She joined the army and got her start working with animals there as an animal care specialist.
Dr. Doris Durst grew up on a dairy farm near Richland Center in southwestern Wisconsin. She graduated from UW-River Falls with a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science. She then received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Minnesota.
Heather has always loved animals, but has a huge passion for cats and birds. She grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota and graduated from the Medical Institute of MN with an AAS in Veterinary Technology in 1997. She then spent 16 years as a Certified Veterinary Technician in an exotic animal practice in the cities. When she moved to Wisconsin she spent two years as a CVT before she started teaching future CVT’s at Globe University here in Eau Claire for another two years. In her limited free time, she enjoys weekends at her cabin, crafting, photography and spending time with friends and her husband, Frank. Heather has a new puppy named Bear, along with three very spoiled cats: Harley who is six, Chevy who is four, and Shelby who is a year old. She also has a nine year old bearded dragon named spike, and a tank full of fish.
Hannah grew up in Ladysmith, Wisconsin where she discovered her love for animals on her parent’s hobby farm as well as volunteering at the local animal shelter. She has raised and cared for a number of animals including: cows, sheep, chickens, dogs, cats, and an array of exotic pets. She then moved to Eau Claire to attend Chippewa Velley Technical College, where she graduated with honors and an Associate’s Degree in Administration with an emphasis in health care. In Hannah’s free time, she enjoys traveling, crocheting and spending time with friends and family. Her most favorite thing of all is spending time with her grandpa.
Jennet is originally from Long Island, New York, but relocated to the Eau Claire area in 2002. She graduated from Globe University with an Associate’s Degree in Applied Animal Science and then passed her VTNE in 2015, officially making her a Certified Veterinary Technician. In her spare time, she likes to spend time with family and friends. She also enjoys hiking, photography, and mushing with her five Siberian Huskies: Embry (10), Zoey (10), Ares (8), Murdock (2), and Twyla her newest puppy. In addition, she has three cats named Ash (11), Oliver (7), and Leo (5). She also recently adopted a baby hedgehog named Peter Quill.
As a child, Erin grew up on a farm in Loyal, Wisconsin. She graduated from Globe University with an Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology. Afterwards, she continued her education at the University of Wisconsin – River Falls, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science. Erin enjoys reading, playing video games, and going for walks with her dogs, Sierra, who is 13 and Lilly, who is one. She also has four cats: Winterfel (15), Crowley (8), Honey (4), and Arya (4) - as well as a 4 year old pet snake named Murphy.
Sarah has lived in Menomonie, Wisconsin her entire life, and has had an interest in animals since before she can remember. She attended the University of Wisconsin – River Falls and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and a Veterinary Technologist emphasis. She then attended Argosy University where she received her Associate’s Degree as a Veterinary Technician. In her free time, Sarah enjoys being outside camping and horseback riding. She also enjoys spending time with friends and family, especially her two sons, Rayden who is five and Jaxton who is two. She also has two cats: Melody (13) and Pixie (1), along with a dog named Kit Kat, who is nine.
Amanda was born in California and raised in Sedalia, Colorado. She started out in human healthcare, but decided to switch to animal medicine so she could be an advocate for those without a voice. She studied at the Pima Medical Institute where she received her Associate’s Degree in Animal Science. Amanda has special interests in dentistry, anesthesia, and canine rehabilitation. In her free time, she enjoys shooting archery, hunting, fishing, and gardening. She currently has one cat, Sir Brimley Beetus the IV, a 7 year old Persian.
Morgan grew up in Bloomer, Wisconsin on a small farm where she first became interested in caring for animals. She attended Globe University and received her Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology and graduated in June of 2014. She has previously worked in both customer service and kennel staff positions making her a perfect fit for our team! When the weather is nice, Morgan enjoys fishing with her husband in their John Boat and playing tennis. They also enjoy playing video games when the weather is bad. They have two dogs: Wilson (four years old) and Gatlin (two years old), both are Shih Tzu mixes, and four cats: Tiger (a seven year old tabby), Lily Ann (a six year old snow shoe), Allie Gator (a three year old calico), and Stihl (a two year old long haired gray tabby).
Matt grew up is Madison, Wisconsin and his interest in animals started when he was very young. He always had dogs and cats, but every time he went to the pet store, he found a new species he wanted to own and learn about, he even started to work in pet retail, which he did for over ten years. Matt has also worked at the UW National Primate Research Center, so he has all kinds of experience with different animals. He started his education at Globe University and is now enrolled in the Penn Foster Vet Tech program online. In his free time, he loves to watch sports, specifically baseball. He loves to go to any games he can, the Madison Mallards, Eau Claire Express, and the Milwaukee Brewers are just a few of his favorites. He also likes to be outdoors during the archery deer and spring turkey seasons. Matt’s favorite thing to do though is hang out with his wife and animals. He currently has a dog and cat at home, Diesel, a 4 year old Border Collie, and Meekah, a 6 year old muted Calico.
Anna grew up in the Eau Claire area and has been around animals her entire life and is always her happiest self when she is around them. She was attending the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire for English, but quickly realized she did not want to sit behind a desk all day. Instead, she will be taking online classes to become a Certified Veterinary Technician. In her free time, she has many hobbies: spending time with friends, painting, listening to music, being outside in her hammock, and taking day trips to small towns.
Kortney grew up in Fall Creek, Wisconsin, but spent the majority of her time on her grandmother’s farm in Fairchild, Wisconsin. There she raised and cared for all kinds of animals including mallards, deer, cattle, horses, turtles, and of course dogs and cats. In her free time, she enjoys playing board games, traveling, and camping. She also enjoys spending time at the dog park with her dog, Hershel, a four year old Boston Terrier.
Mikayla grew up in the small town of poplar, Wisconsin where she lived on a 40 acre hobby farm. She also showed all kinds of animals in 4-H, such as: dogs, cats, rabbits, and horses. After high school, she attended WITC – Superior for Business Management and graduated with high honors. Mikayla has worked at many jobs revolving around her love for animals, such as: A Place for Fido, Blue Sky Rabbitry, and a boarding facility in Superior. In her free time she enjoys hiking, going on road trips, and working with her dogs on obedience and agility training. She currently has two animals: Charlie, a three year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi, and Ginger, an eight year old cat.
Dana was born in Madison, Wisconsin and moved here to Eau Claire in 2003. She then attended CVTC and got her Associate’s Degree in Marketing. After that, she went to UW-Stout and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. Dana has always loved animals and been a pet owner, but when she adopted her dog Clark in 2012, he inspired her to get involved with animal rescues. She currently volunteers with multiple local rescues and assists them in fostering, transporting, mentoring, fundraising, training, and adoption application screening. Outside of fostering, she enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, nieces and nephews, and Clark. Along with Clark, her 11 year old American Stafford Terrier and German Shorthair Pointer mix, she also has Dexter, a four year old Crested Gecko. Dana also enjoys baking, crafting, reading, and traveling.
Erin grew up right here in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. She has always had pets: dogs, cats, bunnies, guinea pigs, hamsters, etc. She was studying Liberal Arts at CVTC and then transitioned to the American Academy of Professional Coders to become a Medical Coder. In her spare time, she likes to go for hikes, paint, read, hang out with friends and family, listen to music, and watch movies. Erin also enjoys spending time with her two cats: Whiskers, who is 13 years old, and Freezie, who is 10.
Rachel grew up right here in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. She has had dogs all her life, but always wanted a cat and other exotic pets. Her parents never allowed her to have anything other than a dog until finally they gave in a few years ago and she got her very first cat. Rachel fell in love with the feline personality right away. She now has three cats of her own: Opal (12), Ebenezer (1), and Kuwa (1). She also has Sullivan, a one year old blue merle mini Australian shepherd and rat terrier mix.
Porter has been with us since December of 2016 and is about eight years old. He mostly likes to hang out in the back and supervise the technicians and doctors. If he makes his way up front he is probably lurking behind bags of food or perched on the reception desk. He is VERY friendly and loves all kinds of attention.
Orangey has been one of our beloved clinic cats since February of 2019 and is about ten years old and was recently been diagnosed with diabetes. He was then surrendered to us and our staff fell in love with him instantly. Orangey is a very mellow guy that enjoys lounging in the middle of the hallways and finding new places to explore.

Thomas is one of the most affectionate cats you will find. Sit in our lobby and Thomas is bound to be in your lap giving you BIG HUGS, whether you are a cat person or not. He is very demanding. Tommy is 18 years old and joined our team 2005.
