Dr. David Menard was born and raised in Wheaton Township, Chippewa County. He grew up on a large dairy/beef farm. He attended Regis High School, and then went to UWEC where he received his B.S. in Zoology and Chemistry.
Dr. Peter Helmbrecht graduated from the University of Wisconsin – School of Veterinary Medicine in 1991. He has been with Northside Pet Hospital since 2015. He enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, especially preventative care and internal medicine.
Dr. Michelle Rothaug grew up in McMinnville, Oregon where she always knew growing up that she wanted to work with animals. She joined the army and got her start working with animals there as an animal care specialist.
Dr. Doris Durst grew up on a dairy farm near Richland Center in southwestern Wisconsin. She graduated from UW-River Falls with a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science. She then received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Minnesota.
Heather has always loved animals, but has a huge passion for cats and birds. She grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota and graduated from the Medical Institute of MN with an AAS in Veterinary Technology in 1997. She then spent 16 years as a Certified Veterinary Technician in an exotic animal practice in the cities. When she moved to Wisconsin she spent two years as a CVT before she started teaching future CVT’s at Globe University here in Eau Claire for another two years. In her limited free time, she enjoys weekends at her cabin, crafting, photography and spending time with friends and her husband, Frank. Heather has a new puppy named Bear, along with three very spoiled cats: Harley who is six, Chevy who is four, and Shelby who is a year old. She also has a nine year old bearded dragon named spike, and a tank full of fish.
Hannah grew up in Ladysmith, Wisconsin where she discovered her love for animals on her parent’s hobby farm as well as volunteering at the local animal shelter. She has raised and cared for a number of animals including: cows, sheep, chickens, dogs, cats, and an array of exotic pets. She then moved to Eau Claire to attend Chippewa Velley Technical College, where she graduated with honors and an Associate’s Degree in Administration with an emphasis in health care. In Hannah’s free time, she enjoys traveling, crafting, getting tattoos, and spending time with friends and family.
Sarah has lived in Menomonie, Wisconsin her entire life, and has had an interest in animals since before she can remember. She attended the University of Wisconsin – River Falls and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and a Veterinary Technologist emphasis. She then attended Argosy University where she received her Associate’s Degree as a Veterinary Technician. In her free time, Sarah enjoys being outside camping and horseback riding. She also enjoys spending time with friends and family, especially her two sons, Rayden who is five and Jaxton who is two. She also has two cats: Melody (13) and Pixie (1), along with a dog named Kit Kat, who is nine.
Morgan grew up in Bloomer, Wisconsin on a small farm where she first became interested in caring for animals. She attended Globe University and received her Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology and graduated in June of 2014. She has previously worked in both customer service and kennel staff positions making her a perfect fit for our team! When the weather is nice, Morgan enjoys fishing with her husband in their John Boat and playing tennis. They also enjoy playing video games when the weather is bad. They have two dogs: Wilson (four years old) and Gatlin (two years old), both are Shih Tzu mixes, and four cats: Tiger (a seven year old tabby), Lily Ann (a six year old snow shoe), Allie Gator (a three year old calico), and Stihl (a two year old long haired gray tabby).
Cheyenne grew up in Duluth, Minnesota on an Iron range and has loved animals for as long as she can remember. She went to Lake Superior Community College and received an Associate’s Degree for her generals. She then attended Dakota County Community College for Veterinary Technology. In her free time, she enjoys spending time on the farm with her Pony, going for hikes, and taking pictures. She has a nine year old Pony of the Americas named Beau and a two year old standard gray Chinchilla named Chilly.
Alexis grew up with a variety of animals in Osseo, WI. She started working at a local vet clinic in high school which really sparked her interest in helping and learning about animals. She currently has a two-year-old red Labrador retriever named Colt and a ten-year-old quarter horse named Banjo. In her free time, she enjoys hiking and swimming with her dog and riding her horse. Alexis also likes going on road trips around Osseo and discovering new places she didn’t know existed.
Olivia was born here in Eau Claire, but then relocated to North Carolina shortly after. Her family then decided to move back to the area. She has always had dogs growing up and loved them for as long as she can remember. Her family even calls her the “Dog Whisperer.” She currently has three dogs: Emma, a four year old mixed breed, Bo, a four year old Great Dane, Lab, and husky mix, and Asta, a three year old hound mix. All three dogs are over 70 pounds and are the biggest babies.
Skylar grew up in Sparta, Wisconsin, where she worked on a friend’s mini farm and also showed animals at the county fair. She has also worked at humane societies as well as rescues, so she has a ton of experience caring for animals already. Skylar is currently attending UWEC for Biology, majoring in Pre-Veterinarian Sciences and minoring in Pre-Professional Health Sciences. In her free time, she likes to hang out with friends and go to the gym. Her favorite activity is spending time with her three animals though. She has two German Shepherds, Reff who is six and Sherman who is three, as well as a two year old Ragdoll cat named Penelope (Baby P. for short).
Mikayla grew up in the small town of poplar, Wisconsin where she lived on a 40 acre hobby farm. She also showed all kinds of animals in 4-H, such as: dogs, cats, rabbits, and horses. After high school, she attended WITC – Superior for Business Management and graduated with high honors. Mikayla has worked at many jobs revolving around her love for animals, such as: A Place for Fido, Blue Sky Rabbitry, and a boarding facility in Superior. In her free time she enjoys hiking, going on road trips, and working with her dogs on obedience and agility training. She currently has 4 animals living with her: Charlie, a three year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Rubio a 9 year old lab mix, Ginger, an eight year old cat, and Pepper a four year old calico. She also has two childhood dogs still living with her parents: Cassey who is 12 and Berlin who is five. Both dogs are German Shepherds.
Irene grew up north of Cadott, Wisconsin where she helped run a game farm. Her father also raised and trained bird dogs. She learned a lot about animals from him, especially how to love and care for them. In her free time, she enjoys reading, working on puzzles, gardening, and bowling. She loves to spend time with her animals, friends, and family. Irene also loves to travel. She and her husband ride UTVs during the summer and snowmobiles during the winter. They have four cats: Phoebe (4), Millie (3), Loretta (2), and JoJo (2). Three dogs: Maci (9), Alice (5), and Homer (5). All of which are rescues. She also has two five year old fainting goats named Peeps and Taffy.
Annie grew up in Milwaukee, WI, but moved to the Eau Claire area in the 80’s. Her first job was in the vet field being a Veterinary Assistant where she helped with the animals, worked in the front office, and assisted on house calls. She became interested in the radiology aspect of healthcare and she has been doing that for the last 29 years. Annie attended UW Eau Claire - Luther Hospital School of Radiology as well as CVTC for Diagnostic Medical Sonography. She has an Associate’s Degree in Ultrasound and a certificate of Radiological Sciences. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, hiking, spending time with her kids, and shooting trap with her husband. The two of them also love watching Harry Potter and going on Disney Cruises. They currently have two dogs: Bello, a 13 year old Plott Hound mix, and Gertie, a 2 year old mini Australian Shepherd. They also have three cats: Simba Sue (14), Lily (9), and Sven (1).
Emily grew up in Chippewa Falls with a bloodhound that sparked her interest in animals. As her first pet, she was responsible for everything for her and she loved every aspect of it. She will be enrolling in the fall to Penn Foster to become a Certified Veterinary Technician. In her spare time, she loves to travel, hike, kayak, and spend time with her dog. Her boyfriend owns an ice cream shop and races Sprint cars, so she spends a lot of time watching him race and helping out at his business. Emily has a 1 year old Labradoodle named Quinn, who is her pride and joy.
Porter has been with us since December of 2016 and is about eight years old. He mostly likes to hang out in the back and supervise the technicians and doctors. If he makes his way up front he is probably lurking behind bags of food or perched on the reception desk. He is VERY friendly and loves all kinds of attention.
Orangey has been one of our beloved clinic cats since February of 2019 and is about ten years old and was recently been diagnosed with diabetes. He was then surrendered to us and our staff fell in love with him instantly. Orangey is a very mellow guy that enjoys lounging in the middle of the hallways and finding new places to explore.

Thomas is one of the most affectionate cats you will find. Sit in our lobby and Thomas is bound to be in your lap giving you BIG HUGS, whether you are a cat person or not. He is very demanding. Tommy is 18 years old and joined our team 2005.
